Stripe and USDC Payments: Stablecoin Uses Versus OTC

Stripe and stablecoin merchant payments

Stripe's resumption of crypto payments drew attention in 2024, with USDC featuring in discussion. Merchant payment services depend on the payer's token, network, merchant eligibility and settlement arrangements. Acceptance of stablecoins does not mean every region and asset is supported.

For Stripe's own product, read its official stablecoin payment documentation and check the eligibility and terms applicable in the relevant location and period.

Stablecoin payments still involve risk

Stablecoins target a currency peg but can still carry depegging, liquidity, issuer, custody and network-operation risks. Merchant payment, on-chain confirmation and fiat settlement are different stages, not risk-free or necessarily immediate.

Merchant payments versus in-store cash-out in Hong Kong

Merchant payments pay for goods or services. Store cash-out means a holder sells assets to receive HKD. VBIT's USDT Cash Out accepts customers selling USDT only, with HKD settled in cash at the store; we do not sell USDT to customers. VBIT also accepts customers selling USDC for HKD cash at a store. For the steps, see the Selling and Cash Out. Stripe's merchant payment and settlement arrangements are a different service from store cash-out.

For USDT and its relationship to networks, read the USDT basics. For pre-transfer checks, see transaction safety information.
